The 30th annual Critics Choice Awards followed many of the precedents set by the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards for the 2024 season. The CCA members and fans voted on the best television programming of the year, and consensus is out. 

Shōgun took home the award for Best Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama Series with Hiroyuki Sanada, Deadline reports. This followed the show’s win for Oustanding Drama Series at the 2024 Emmy awards. The television series led the way with six nominations, also winning in the Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor category. The Japanese show won the most awards across all categories, with four wins out of the six nominations. 

The show took place last Friday and was hosted by comedian Chelsea Handler. The show was delayed twice as a result of the Los Angeles wildfires, according to CNN. It premired on E! Network and was also available to stream on Hulu Live. 

Best Comedy Series went to HBO Max original Hacks, which also took home Best Actress in a Comedy Series with Jean Smart’s performance. Hacks was awarded Outstanding Comedy Series at the 2024 Emmy Awards.  Best Actress in a Drama Series went to Kathy Bates for CBS’s Matlock, a revamp of the classic NBC Matlock series starring Andy Griffith. 

Best Limited Series was awarded to Netflix’s Baby Reindeer, whose performance by Jessica Gunning also won Best Performance in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television.
