Previously, on the original Netflix series Squid Game, we learned that No-Eul (Park Gyu-young) was assigned to be a sniper for the game. Player 001, named In-ho, (Lee Byung-hun) is the Front Man. Gi-hun (Lee Jung-Jae) lost connection with Jun-ho (Wi Ha-Joon) and the crew after his tracker was removed.
The episode begins with the players getting their water and some breakfast. Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan) sits with Gi-hun, trying to get him to taste his food, but Gi-hun is quiet and reserved. Player 001 comes over to them, with a group of players, and tells Gi-hun they want his help in the game. They ask him what the next game is and he says Dalgona, the honeycomb shape game.
The rest of the group leaves to return to their beds, and Player 001 asks Gi-hun why he returned. Tension runs high as Player 001 tells Gi-hun that it would have been wrong if he had pressed X in the last voting round.
Two of the players begin to get into a fight. Player 001 intervenes, telling them to stop. He puts one of them into a chokehold, before letting them go. The players give him a round of applause for stopping the fight.
Later, we see everyone sleeping and In-ho asks Gi-hun to talk. He tells him that his wife is sick and also expecting a child, which is why he agreed to participate in the game. He says that he has to win the prize money, even if that means the others will die.
Some of the snipers go to check the dead bodies, seeing if any of their organs are still good to use. They notice that some bodies have headshots, which aren’t a good sign for them. They talk to their boss, telling them they think it was No-Eul who fired the shots, so he talks to her. We are informed that she and her boss have known each other for years and that he’s tried helping her before. The reason some people aren’t killed instantly is to harvest their organs to help others.
We then see Jun-ho at the police department. He goes to ask his chief for help with Gi-hun and the location of the game. The chief’s boss doesn’t believe what Jun-ho tells him and he says that he won’t do anything unless he gets evidence.
Woo-Seok (Jun Suk-ho) tells Captain that they need to go back on the water the next day to search for the island again. He informs him about Gi-hun and Captain says that he didn’t believe it when Jun-ho told him, but now he does.
It is now time for the second game, Dalgona. Gi-hun grabs his triangle first and it’s different than last season, looking more complicated. Everyone notices and begins to get upset with him, yelling that they shouldn’t have listened to him. Then, all of a sudden, Gi-hun wakes up realizing it was just a nightmare. it’s time for the actual second game. The players divide into teams of five and Gi-hun tells them he doesn’t think it’s Dalgona they will be playing.
As they sit with their teams, In-ho slips up, saying Gi-hun’s name. He covers up, telling him that he had overheard Jung-bae say it before. There are five mini-games that they have to play. The first one is Ddakji, then Flying Stone, Gong-gi, Spinning Top, and Jegi. Each member of the team decides which part of the game they’ll be doing. The games have begun and tension is running high. While some teams are having success, others aren’t doing so well. One team doesn’t make it to the finish line in time, so they get killed.
Overall, this episode was very intriguing, not failing to create nerves. Five players are now dead, so it will be interesting to see how many players are left at the end of the next episode. Will Gi-hun and his team be able to beat the time and finish all of the games?
